Countless
players focus on the long game trying to obtain maximum distance while they maybe add several strokes to their tally on the
putting greens. Adept putting will lower your score to a great extent so make a point of consistently using golf putting drills.
Golf putting drills can be a fun means of practicing your putting to improve your game. They also assist you to concentrate
on the aspects of your putting that demand most improvement. Various drills are used for short and long putting.
The following drills are designed to cure any issues you have with your putting. A few can be turned into a contest played
with others.
Putting Stroke
set two clubs on the practice green, parallel, slightly over a putter head width apart and align with the hole, so if
you hit a straight putt the ball will sink. You should bring the putter straight back or it will jar with the clubs on the
ground. Your putter head has to be held square throughout to allow the ball to drop into the hole.
Weight/Distance
You have to get a feel and touch for medium and long putting to estimate length. Your muscle memory needs to be trained
to convey a definite message from your brain about how strong to strike the putt. Ingraining in your putting weight and distance
is the point for this golf putting drill rather than the line. Bring approximately ten balls onto the practice green and stand
about 15 40 feet (4.5 to 12 metres) away from the edge. As you hit each ball aim for the edge of the green making sure you
don't go up onto the fringe. Putting to a band instead of a hole helps your perception and feel for distance. You will feel
confident with your judgement when faced with lengthy putts on the course through using this drill and cut the number of putts
down to 2 instead of 3 or more!
Short Putts
This easy drill is great towards improving your short putts. Beginning 3ft (1m) from the hole on level ground line up
5 or 6 balls at 12in (30cm) apart. Attempt to hole the first ball. When you do, try the following ball and carry on till you
miss holing the ball. Whenever this happens retrieve your balls and start again. The goal of the exercise is to successfully
putt each ball one after the other. Your short putting stroke will improve with this drill and it will concentrate on your
attention and initiative.
Feel for Weight
The way to train for the feel of weight is not to look at the ball after you have hit it. Take about 10 balls and putt
to an area on the green. Aim for a place 25ft (7.5m) away from you putting each ball towards it. Putt each ball without looking
up. Make an effort to keep everything the same weight, line, rhythm. strive to have all the balls collected together in a
small area. When all the balls have been hit then you can look up. Your goal is to end up with all your balls contained within
a circle of 2ft (75cm) in diameter. If you are happy with your outcome proceed to a greater length. Whenever you increase
the length of putt by 5ft (1.5cm) add 6in (15cm) to the diameter of your circle.
Use these golf putting drills a lot to speedily better your game and lower your handicap quickly.
Good golfing.
